1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 RS

In 1969, Chevrolet was producing many large-cubic-inch engine, powerful muscle cars.  Of course, these cars were known for their straight-line performance, but had a tendency to come up short in the twisties.  However, ever since 1967 they’d also produced a more balanced, lighter muscle car they ended up naming after the RPO code you checked off on the order sheet to get it—it was the Z/28 Camaro.

Chevrolet had to make at least 1000 Z/28s a year to homologate them so they could go racing in the SCCA Trans Am series of the day.  The rules stated that the cars must be a regular production vehicle having an engine of less than 305 CI and rated at less than 300 HP.  Hence the Boss 302 Mustang, de-stroked AAR/TA Cudas and Challengers, 290 CI AMX/Javelins, and the legendary Camaro Z/28.

In 1969, Chevrolet produced only 20,302 real Z/28 Camaros.  The car you see here is a 1969 Z/28 equipped as an even-more-rare Rally Sport.  Only approximately 3045 69 Z/28 RS’ were produced.

Date-code and casting-number correct DZ-Code 302/290 HP engine with the very rare and very expensive GM Cross-Ram dual quads, close-ratio Muncie M21 4-speed transmission and 4.10-geared 12-Bolt positraction rear axle.

Ultra-desirable Lemans Blue with white stripes exterior and white interior.  Well optioned with the RS package, console with full gauges, power steering, power disc brakes, AM radio, electric clock, tachometer, wiper washers, and bucket seats with headrests.  Multiple award winner:  AACA Jr National 1st place,  AACA Senior National 1st place, Vintage Chevy Regional Meet judged 994 points out of 1000, and Classic Chevy Winter Nationals Platinum and Best Paint Awards.

This beautiful 69 Z/28 RS’ engine is freshly rebuilt by a master engine builder.  The Muncie M21 transmission has been freshened internally and the 4.10 geared rear axle is set up and shimmed to perfection.  This is a beautiful show-quality car that also starts easily, idles perfectly and runs unbelievably strong.
